Shen Yun is a world-class performing arts company founded in 2006 in New York. It is a non-governmental and non-profit organization with the mission of reviving and restoring the 5,000-year-old traditional culture of ancient China.
The name Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing”. Through its vibrant and flowing melodies, vibrant and spectacular dances, and a stage featuring stunning 3D imagery – from the lush, endless grasslands of Tibet that soothe the heart, to the majestic landscapes of the ancient Five Sacred Mountains that inspire boundless vitality, and on to the imperial palaces of past dynasties with their exquisite, grand, and elaborate architecture that evokes a sense of nobility. Shen Yun takes the audience on a journey through time, where kindness – compassion, and faith are portrayed in every movement and melody, reviving noble moral values and the human spirit in depth.
When I had the opportunity to watch a Shen Yun performance, I was deeply moved and spiritually uplifted by the pure beauty and righteous energy of the show. In particular, the dance drama Han Yao (The Humble House) left a lasting and unforgettable impression on me.
Shen Yun presented Han Yao in its original and authentic form, unlike the modified versions seen today. In my view, this is the purest and most truthful version, reflecting genuine culture and traditional moral values.
The story of Han Yao celebrates loyalty and faithfulness in marriage and also embodies virtues such as gratitude, forgiveness, patience, endurance and unwaveringly keeping one’s vows.
In the story, Lady Wang Bao Xuan, the noble daughter of the royal Wang family, is a woman of beauty, grace, and integrity. Xie Ren Gui, a young man from a modest background, wears coarse clothing yet possesses heroic courage and noble bearing. Bao Xuan endures hardship and remains faithful in their humble home, “waiting for her husband to return,” exemplifying the virtue of marital devotion. Meanwhile, Xie Ren Gui spends 18 years on the battlefield, achieving glorious victories and being bestowed the title of Prince. Upon his triumphant return, he sought out his forever faithful wife, fulfilling their long – lasting vow, and creating a legendary tale of love, loyalty and virtue.
In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, many people feel anxious or lost in life. Shen Yun helps audiences reconnect with traditional values, the harmony between Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. Its stories highlight virtues such as righteousness, compassion, loyalty, forgiveness, and generosity.
